To my dearest Roxxie
Lord, make me to know mine end, and the measure of my days, what it is; that I may know how frail I am - Psalm 39:4.
Many of my colleagues at GSL who had a special relationship with Rosemond called her Rose B but for me it was Roxxie. The significance of that nickname represented the unique relationship she and I had.
I recall being introduced to her by my best friend and big brother who I referred to as my Godfather, the late John Hupkortie, our Deputy Managing Director when I joined GSL. In his remarks, he said "she is a good woman, be nice to her always and if you want a friend she is the one". I believe this was the beginning of the unique and very special relationship we had for almost two decades.
I called her my counsellor as she will make time to listen to me and help me find a positive solution to whatever emotional problem that I was faced with.
For many years she was my "co-pilot", I will pick her up at her usual spot on our way to work and her drop at the same location when we close from work together. The front seat of my car on a working day was "a certified Roxxie seat". This, my colleagues will laugh about on a daily basis when we arrive at work. She was my great "co-pilot" as there was never a dull moment in the car whenever we drove together to work. Our conversations spanned from politics, gospel music, life in general to the bible as she would share her morning devotional message she had read with me.
My eating partner Roxxie religiously ensured that our breakfast and lunch for work were catered for. If she fails to cook from home, we will definitely drive to our favorite food joint to buy something to eat.
The memories go on and on, they will forever remain with me. My counselor, my co-pilot, eating partner and my dearest friend Roxxie, may the good Lord keep you safe until we meet again.
